Hundreds enjoy Christmas late night shopping event in Uppingham

Christmas got off to a good start in Uppingham last night (Thursday) when a late night shopping event was held.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the fun and entertainment in the Market Place, High Street East and at Uppingham Town Hall.

There was a funfair, street entertainers, a Christmas market and a Santa’s grotto in the town centre and many shops in the town stayed open late.

The event was organised by Uppingham Town Partnership and vice-chairman Marc Oxley said the town was busy.

He said: “There were a lot of people in the town and I have already spoken to a couple of traders who were very happy with how the night went.

“I would say it was a fantastic start to the Christmas period.”

The fun will continue on Monday when a late night shopping event is held in Oakham. The event starts at 4pm when the streets in the town centre close to make way for stalls and a funfair.

There will even be an ice rink in the Market Place and many shops will be staying open. It runs until 9pm.
