Hunt gets going at second attempt

THE traditional New Year's Day meet of the Cottesmore Hunt took place today after fog curtailed yesterday's event.

Members of the hunt reconvened at midday at Ladywood Lodge near Knossington, the home of Robert and Dawn Jarrom. As well as a traditional stirrup cup, riders and supporters enjoyed hot sausage rolls and mince pies.

About 60 riders hunted in the Knossington area, where artificial lines were laid.

Former chairman Michael Clayton said: "The support the hunt has had over the holiday period has been tremendous, showing that hunting remains highly popular in our countryside.

"The Cottesmore is particularly grateful to all the farmers and landowners who continue to give us such a warm welcome."
