JIM Stubley is pictured with an unexpected visitor at his home in Rippingale.

Jim, of East Street, has kept chickens all his life so was surprised to find one of his girls sitting on her eggs last week, months earlier than usual.

Mr Stubley, 79, said: “It turns out that all this mild weather made her want to sit and last Tuesday four baby chickens hatched out.

“It has been warm enough to keep them outside during the day but at night time I bring them into my conservatory to keep them safe.”

Mr Stubley plans to keep the new arrivals, taking his total number of birds to 10.
