AN explorer has walked to both the North and South Poles for charity.

Julian Evans, 39, who is from Lyddington but now lives in Market Harborough, completed the trek to the North Pole in 2008 and returned from a 21-day trek to the South Pole earlier this month.

Julian was raising money for LandAid, Matt Hampson Foundation, Myeloma UK, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the Rainbow Trust. So far he has raised about £40,000 by completing a series of challenges.

He said: “The South Pole is the holy grail for polar explorers and Antarctica is a stunning but unforgiving continent.”

“It was a relatively tough expedition but I often thought of Hambo (Matt Hampson), who is an inspiration.

“He left me a voice message via e-mail wishing me luck which was brilliant.”
