Killed motorcyclist is named
A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed in an accident on a stretch of road where a driver was killed just four weeks ago.
Mark Stones, 46, of South Witham, died at the scene of the accident on the A6003 between Uppingham and Caldecott at about 3.50pm on Tuesday.
His Honda VTR 1000F Firestorm motorcycle was involved in a collision with a silver Toyota Corolla. The car then hit another motorcycle travelling with the bike.
Both motorcyclists were knocked from their bikes. The other rider, who was also on a Firestorm, was discharged from Kettering General Hospital yesterday after receiving treatment for a minor injury.
The car driver, a 32-year-old man, and his passenger were not hurt. The driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The road was closed for more than seven hours and finally reopened at 11pm.
Richard Scott, of Oxford, was killed in the same spot when his Fiat Coupe sports car was involved in a collision with two other vehicles at 9.50am on Saturday, August 18.
He was among three people who have been killed on that stretch of the A6003 in the past five years.
