Kirsty takes off with the elite Arrows
A FORMER Stamford High School pupil has made history by becoming the first female pilot to fly with the Red Arrows.
Flt Lt Kirsty Moore joins nine other pilots for the 2010 line up which was unveiled at RAF Scampton.
The 31-year-old joined the RAF in 1998 after studying a masters in aeronautical engineering at Imperial College in London. The career choice was inspired by her father Robbie Stewart, a retired Tornado navigator.
She said: "Having the opportunity to represent the Royal Air Force is a great honour and I'm delighted to be selected for the role.
"It is certainly a major personal achievement for me, just as it is for every pilot chosen for the team.
"Becoming a Red Arrow gives each pilot the opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism, quality leadership, team work, motivation, commitment and camaraderie of the Royal Air Force to audiences all over the world."
Flt Lt Moore has flown the Tornado GR4 in Iraq. Her husband Nicky, 34, is a flying instructor at RAF Valley.
