A charity sale in Bourne was boosted by a visit from celebrity Les Dennis on Saturday who helped raise funds for a local charity.

Les not only drew the raffle at the table top sale at The Centre in Elsea Park, Bourne, he also brought along his own items to be sold on event organiser Trish Page’s table.

The event was also organised by friend Sarah Lambert who will be running the London Marathon next month.

The sale was in aid of charity For Lucie, which was set up after Trish’s daughter Lucie died of meningitis.

The presenter, famous as the host of Family Fortunes, has now agreed to be a patron of the charity.

Trish, who lives in Witham -on-the-Hill said: “It was a brilliant afternoon. There was a steady flow of people there and a lot of people had come to see Les.

“We raised almost £1,000 which is absolutely terrific. We were very pleased with that.”

Les, who is a friend of the family, signed autographs and posed for photos with all those who wanted them.

The event was also support by the Elsea Park Community Trust which donated the use of the centre for free for the first time.

As part of using the hall Trish has visited every house in Elsea Park putting leaflets through their doors about diagnosing meningitis

Trish said: “It is really important that we give something back to the community and help educate people about meningitis .”

The money raised will go to improve the children’s emergency department at Peterborough City Hospital making it more child friendly.
