Lincolnshire County Council elections - candidate profiles
Profiles on all the candidates standing in next week's Lincolnshire County Council elections around Stamford Bourne and the Deepings
Stamford Rural
Name: John Dawson
Age: Not given
Address: Casterton Road, Stamford
Party: Independent
I believe that politics has no place in local government. Free to vote as my conscience dictates, I am not governed by a party whip. Vote for me and I will ensure that you are properly represented at county council. I will only give my support to a policy decision if I believe it to be in the best interests of Stamford and its surrounding villages. The power must always rest with the people.
Name: Eric Goodyer
Age: 55
Address: High Street, Colsterworth
Party: Labour
I am an engineer living with my family. I set up a business after being made redundant during the last Tory recession. I understand the importance of having a skill, and the needs of small businesses. I work part-time for De Montfort University, teaching tomorrow's engineers. Much of my work is exported, so much easier thanks to the EU, which has removed trade barriers and maintained the peace in Europe for 50 years.
Name: Jane Peckett
Age: 60
Address: Tinwell Road, Stamford
Party: Liberal Democrats
The party manifesto is to ensure proper communication between the county and local people and ensure residents are informed of decisions made on their behalf. We will fight for a better deal for education in Stamford, increased facilities at Stamford Hospital, a waste recycling centre, maintain a manned police station and work for the most cost-effective use of your money.
Name: Martin Trollope-Bellew
Age: 53
Address: The Old Hall, Barholm, Stamford
Party: Conservative
I am 53 years old and have been a county councillor for 12 years. While all other groups at Lincoln wanted the county scholarship to cease in 2008, only the Conservatives supported the phase out, these were the only two options legally available to the council. I will continue attending the majority of town, parish and forum meetings and represent all of the division and not just part of it, if elected.
Stamford North
Name: John Hicks
Age: 67
Address: Ryhall Road, Stamford
Party: Independent
It has always been my concern that Stamford is not particularly well served as far as sport and leisure is concerned. If the Government wants to solve problems with crime and to have healthier and safer communities I think sport is the way to combat that. I have also been concerned about education in the town. I believe in the principles of inclusion, partnership and best value.
Name: Maureen Jalili
Age: 56

Name: Brian Sumner
Age: 67
Address: Hazel Grove, Stamford
Party: Conservative
My aim is to maintain Lincolnshire County Council's record as the lowest council tax in the country, avoiding the waste of tax payer's money. Lincolnshire Police has the lowest funding in the country. I want to improve this situation. I aim to work with all agencies to obtain better funding for our children's education. I am easily accessible, working in the community for the best future for all, whatever their political beliefs.
Name: Bill Turner
Age: Not given
Address: Falkirk Close, Stamford
Party: Labour
I was born and raised in St George's Ward. I served 22 years in the army attaining the rank of sergeant, returning to Stamford in 1996. As a committed Stamfordian I would like to give a strong voice to the concerns of the people of Stamford at Lincoln. I care deeply about our town and if elected I promise to faithfully represent the views of the people of Stamford.
Market and West Deeping
Name: Ashley Baxter
Age: 40
Address: Kesteven Close, Deeping St James
Party: Green Party
Despite being the youngest candidate by about 25 years I have lots of experience of reducing waste and improving services in Councils. Firstly as an award-winning local government officer, and latterly as a Parish Councillor.
The only way to stop old-fashioned politicians recycling their worn out ideas is to elect a person and a party with a fresh approach to delivering quality services relevant to our communites. The Green Party fits the bill.
Name: Tom Butterfield
Age: Not given
Address: Stowe Road, Langtoft
Party: Independent
Britain is sinking under the greed and self-interest of its own leadership. This applies at all levels from Parliament down through county, district, town and parish councils. The wrong decisions are being made in every aspect of our lives, from road tarmac, education, social engineering and cultural services.
The working people always come last, while the leadership looks after its friends.
Vote for me - Tom Butterfield, Independent - and don't be sold down the river.

Name: Peter Robinson
Age: 65
Address: Meadow Road, Langtoft
Party: Conservative
I have represented my area on the county council for 12 years and been deputy leader since 2005. With this useful experience behind me, I will seek to build on the important achievements of the past
few years, and continue to serve the people of Market Deeping, West Deeping and Langtoft to the best of my ability. Don't be distracted by events in Westminster – the issues in this election are local ones.
Stamford West

Name: David Brailsford
Age: 60
Address: Carisbrook Grove, Stamford
Party: Conservative
The Conservative controlled Lincolnshire County Council has one of the lowest council tax levels in the country. It has made efficiency savings of over 16m without cuts in front-line services. Performance as independantly audited has consistently improved in all areas. My track record locally includes leading the successful campaign to renew the play equipment on the Recreation Ground. As one of your local postmen I know Stamford, its people, their needs and aspirations. I will continue to ensure that Stamford's interests are properly presented and represented on the county council

Name: Clem Walden
Age: Not given
Address: Charlock Drive, Stamford
Party: Independent
As a local lad, born and bred in Stamford, I seek your full support. I am an elected town councillor for St John's Ward and I am appalled by the undemocratic way in which decisions are made at county level. Decisions which can result in unnecessary cost increases for local ratepayers. In my view there is no place for politics in local government. What has local politics ever done for Stamford? Nothing.
Bourne Castle
Name: Charlotte Farquharson
Age: 69
Address: Westbourne Park, Bourne
Party: Conservative
I am standing because I am now an experienced councillor and I dont wan't to waste that experience which I have gained on behalf of the people in Bourne. I was elected in a by-election in July 2006 and during my time in office I have managed to achieve a number of useful things. I would like to continue working on plans for Lincolnshire County Council especially in adult services where the new fairer charging policy is being put in place, which will eventually be nationwide.
Name: Ann Mansour
Age: 61
Address: Chapel Street, Haconby
Party: Labour
As a Labour councillor I will give a stronger voice to our community to help shape the place we live and our local services. Together our community has the ingenuity and common sense to resolve local issues and keep Bourne moving forward. I will work to safeguard local jobs and support local businesses. Bourne's people are its finest resource and I will do my best to work with and for them.
Name: Helen Powell
Age: 55
Address: Westwood Drive, Bourne
Party: Lincolnshire Independent
Things have to change, Bourne and the surrounding areas deserve better.
This is a very hard working area. We need to cut excessive council spending and re-direct those funds into services for the public.
All the projects on my election leaflet have been self-funded and carried out in my own time independently.
If you decide to support me, it will be an honour to represent you at the decision making meetings, unafraid to speak up and persist on your behalf.
Bourne Abbey
Name: Roberta Britton
Age: Not given
Address: Millfield Road, Morton
Party: Labour
The worst aspect of failed responsibility at county is poor provision for care of the elderly in their homes. The controlling group appears to respond to areas of influence and ignores others completely. Morton has been trying to get a crossing over the A15 for years yet Bourne is given seldom-used crossings at the drop of a hat. Bourne has been abandoned by adult education provision. Your rates are paying for all this provision that amounts to practically nothing for Bourne people - time for a change.
Name: Alan Galland
Age: Not given
Address: Fulmar Court, Doddington Park, Lincoln
Party: British National Party

Name: Trevor Holmes
Age: 68
Address: Poplar Crescent, Bourne
Party: Independent
As the local independent candidate I believe it's people who matter, not politics. It's about supporting this community, not failing it. It's about respecting the residents and their needs. It's about improving services, not seeking to downgrade them. It's about using our council tax wisely and well. It's about having a councillor who will speak up for you in Lincoln, not just locally'. Help me to fight for you.
Name: Peter Morris
Age: 55
Address: Kirkby Underwood Road, Aslackby
Party: Liberal Democrats
It's time to end the two party system in Westminster and the total Tory domination in Lincolnshire. Liberal Democrats believe that decisions affecting Lincolnshire should made in Lincolnshire not in London or by Qangos.
Proportional representation would make both MPs and local councillors truly accountable. More still needs to done to improve the A15 crossroads in Morton and I call for safer school routes and cycle routes in Bourne.
Name: Sue Woolley
Age: Not given
Address: Victoria Grove, Morton
Party: Conservative
I will continue to make sure the voice of Bourne and surrounding villages is heard loud and clear in Lincoln. I am delighted to have led a successful campaign encouraging people to shop locally as well as ensuring one of the next children's centres will be built in Bourne.
As chairman of the South Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership I shall continue to demand appropriate policing resources for the area.
Regardless of party politics I will always listen.
Name: Michael Bossingham
Age: Not given
Address: Wade Park Avenue, Deeping St James
Party: Green Party
I am a Methodist Minister and married to Ann, the Minister for the Methodist Church at The Deepings.
I left the Labour Party over the introduction of tuition fees and the Iraq War.
I was delighted to discover that the Green Party opposed both of these.
I believe that caring for the environment is of paramount importance, but also believes that the Green Party stands for much more than this.
I am keen to see public transport made more usable and reliable in our area.
Name: Mike Exton
Age: 68
Address: Churchill Road, Stamford
Party: Conservative
I don't make promises, I just want to pursue the wishes of the electorate to help them as much as possible with any problems or concerns they have in the Deepings and Frognall. I want to do my best to represent all of the elective irrespective of party politics. I want to continue to support local organisations with improved facilities, especially with regards to sports so everyone can benefit.

Folkingham Rural
Name: Timothy Bradley
Age: 56
Address: Corby Road, Swayfield
Party: Lincolnshire Independents
As an Independent, I feel I can come to the job with an open mind and will be able to consider issues simply on their merits, without being told what to think.
I am 56, have lived and worked in this area very happily all my life and we have brought up our family here.
I hope I am progressive, caring and have enough experience and common sense to stand as a candidate.
Name: David Burling

Name: Martin Hill
Age: Not given
Address: Rippingale Road, Kirkby Underwood
Party: Conservative
I have lived and worked locally for over 40 years successfully representing and helping to improve the area since 1993. A parish councillor, school governor and council leader since 2005. The county council has kept our council tax one of the lowest nationally whilst improving services in all areas and investing in new roads, schools and crime prevention for example. We are committed to sound finance and high standards in public office. Those who are not should be removed from their position.
Name: Janire Morris
Age: 36
Address: Kirkby Underwood Road, Aslackby
Party: Liberal Democrats
I joined the Liberal Democrats because I believe that decisions affecting Lincolnshire should be made in Lincolnshire not in London or by unelected quangos. I successfully campaigned against the threatened closure of all the family planning clinics in Lincolnshire. I am 36 and live in Aslackby and have lived and worked locally for six years. It is time to end the two party system in Westminster and the total Tory domination in Lincolnshire.
Name: Chris Robinson
Age: Not given
Address: Water Lane, South Witham
Party: British National Party
In a depression a 6.5 per cent rise in council tax above forecast IRP is scandalous, as is 1.2 trillion of national debt caused by seven years of runaway public expenditure at four per cent per annum above inflation. The BNP speaks for hard pressed working people and particularly those whose economic and social interests have suffered from EU open labour laws and uncontrolled immigration.
