Lincolnshire County Council leader welcomes David Cameron’s EU referendum pledge
A council leader has welcomed the Prime Minister’s pledge to hold a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU.
David Cameron announced today (Wednesday) that an in/out vote will be held if the Conservatives win the next General Election.
In December Lincolnshire County Council voted to call on the Government to hold a referendum on the issue.
Leader of Lincolnshire County Council, Coun Martin Hill (Con), said: “This is very much in line with what we have been calling for and a positive response to my letter which was sent following the Council debate about the EU in December.
“We believe that it is time that the public were allowed a say about our future EU membership and the seemingly endless pressure for further integration.
“There are benefits to our membership but also many issues particularly the large influx of migrants into our county which is a cause of concern for many residents.
“We look forward to a constructive debate.”
