Lincolnshire County Council looks to save £45m due to funding cuts
Councillors are due to discuss funding cuts at a meeting today (Tuesday) as it looks to save £45m over the next two years.
Lincolnshire County Council’s executive will meet today and will look at recommendations including a council tax freeze, which will mean its portion of the bill will not rise.
Ahead of the meeting executive member for finance and human resources Kelly Smith (Con) said the council has not yet received the full details of its funding from Government as yet.
He said: “Although we haven’t received the full details of our settlement yet, we’re expecting to face further challenges, meaning additional savings will be needed.
“However, we’re committed to protecting priority services while playing our part in balancing the nation’s books.”
He said the county council had made savings of about £80m over the last two years.
He added: “We have plans in place that will bring a further £45m of savings over the next two years.
“However, it’s important that everyone pulls their weight and that Lincolnshire isn’t asked to do more than its fair share. Rural authorities like Lincolnshire still do not receive the same level of overall funding as urban areas. So we’ll continue to call for a fairer deal for local residents.
“Whatever the future holds, we’ll continue to use the resources we have to deliver priority services as best we can.”
