Lincolnshire County Council rethinks Market Deeping traffic lights plan
Campaigners are celebrating another victory in their fight against traffic lights being installed in Market Deeping.
Representatives from Market Deeping Town Council, Deeping St James Parish Council and Delaine Buses met with developers Persimmon Homes and Lincolnshire County Council to discuss plans to install lights in Godsey Lane.
Work was originally due to start on traffic lights at the roundabout to Tesco and further along the road at the entrance to Hardwicke Gardens estate last week.
The result of the meeting at William Hildyard School is a further delay in starting the work to allow the county council to re-evaluate its £900,000 plans.
Deeping St James Parish Council chairman Phil Dilks said: “The county council have now effectively kicked it into the long grass until after the elections.
“It is a victory but we have not won the war yet.
“Thanks to the petition by Andy Pelling, which is now up to more than 1,500 signatures, and everyone in the Deepings coming together we have highlighted the nonsense of it.”
Market Deeping town councillor and Deeping St James parish councillor Ashley Baxter said: “I think the meeting was very successful in that the county council seem to have backed down and gone back to the drawing board.
“At one stage I though it was hopeless but they seemed to have listened even after the decision had been made.”
Lincolnshire County Council executive member for Highways and Transportation William Webb, (Con) said: “We have taken away all of the comments and concerns from the meeting and will work with Persimmon Homes and South Kesteven District Council to find alternative arrangements.
“We will then return to consult with the town and parish councils, and any other interested parties, to present them with the findings.”
