Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was found lying in a street with head and facial injuries.
The 40-year-old was discovered in Burley Road, Oakham, at about 2.35am yesterday (Sunday).
He was taken to Kettering General Hospital and is now in a stable condition.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail pending further enquiries.
There was a police cordon in Mill Street following the incident.
Det Con Anita Rose said: “Investigations are in their early stages and we are carrying out a number of enquiries to help us establish how this man came about his injuries.
“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have been the area in particular Burley Road or Mill Street at around this time who may have witnessed anything with this incident to please get in touch.
“What you think may be small could be vital to us so please get in touch if there is anything you know.”
