Motorists urged not to park at hospital

HEALTH chiefs are urging people not to park at Stamford Hospital unless they have business there.

They believe shoppers and visitors to the town are using their free car parks, blocking the spaces for patients, visitors and staff.

Matron and site manager Sue Brooks said during the past few weeks, the number of vehicles in the hospital car parks had gone up.

She said: "We don't currently charge for patients to park at the hospital and our concern is that the increase is due to visitors to Stamford town centre using the facilities to park and then walking into town.

"This places increased pressure on the parking spaces available and on a few occasions has meant that patients using hospital services have been unable to park.

"We've had a few people with appointments come into the main entrance quite distressed because they couldn't find a space.

"We've had a few complaints. We appeal to everybody to please refrain from using Stamford Hospital car park unless they are staff, a patient, or visiting a patient."

Mrs Brooks said that if the problem continued, barrier or permit parking might have to be introduced.

"We might have to look at protected parking, although this is not really where we want to go unless we have to," she said."

"We are very privileged to have free parking here but those not on hospital business should not be parking here. People need to park here for a reason.

"This will become even more important over the coming months as we continue to introduce new clinical services to Stamford Hospital which mean the parking spaces available will be under increased demand."
