Museum team receive special bloom honour
THE team behind a museum garden has received a commemorative plaque after winning a regional award.
The Friends of Rutland County Museum and Oakham Castle received the plaque after winning the 2008 East Midlands in Bloom special award for the best new permanent landscape.
It was presented by Oakham in Bloom committee members Maureen Dodds, Derek Bilby and Teresa Thompson at the museum garden on Friday last week.
Only one of the awards is granted each year to the venue that has impressed the judges the most.
The award is the second recognition of excellence in horticulture for the museum which won the judges' award in the 2007 contest.
The friends group funded the transformation of a derelict piece of land behind the museum into a delightful garden to be enjoyed by everyone.
It was designed by Oakham in Bloom's gardening co-ordinator Teresa Thompson and constructed by landscape gardening company Mosaic.
The museum garden is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 5pm.
Entry is free to Rutland County Museum and the garden.
