New homes could be built on bungalow site in Braunston Road in Oakham
Plans for 11 new homes on the site of a former bungalow in Oakham are set to be given the go-ahead despite a number of objections.
A planning application for 10 two storey units and a first floor flat to be built in Braunston Road was submitted to Rutland County Council.
The development will include five two-bedroom and five three-bedroom houses, and a one-bedroom flat.
There will also be a 22-space car park, as well as small gardens for each property.
The proposed development site is next to the grounds of Southfield Community Primary.
The plans have been recommended for approval and a decision is expected at a development and control licensing committee meeting on Tuesday next week.
However, there have been objections from neighbouring residents and Oakham Town Council.
The town council recommended refusal for the plans, stating that the ridge height of the homes fronting to the road is excessive.
Residents who live in Harrington Road, which is situated off Braunston Road and runs behind the proposed development, have also responded with concerns.
They say that the property will be out of character with the road; the dwellings will encourage parking on the road, making it dangerous; and that access is close to a bend which obstructs views of vehicles leaving the site.
They also believe that granting consent would lead to more development plans of a similar nature which they say would spoil the design and nature of Oakham in general.

There are three other development proposals which the committee is set to discuss on Tuesday.
They include a shop entrance canopy at Barrowden and Wakerley Community Shop, a two-storey extension to The Crown Inn pub in Tinwell and two houses and a detached garage in the pub’s car park.
