Church users young and old will benefit from a new minibus bought with a £50,000 grant from the county council.
Mayor of Stamford Brian Sumner handed over the keys of the new vehicle to members of Christ Church in Green Lane on Friday last week.
Coun Sumner was joined by more than 30 invited guests including minibus users, church members, pupils from St Augustine’s Primary School and members of Stamford clubs and organisations.
Rector of St George’s and Christ Church the Reverend Martyn Taylor gave a prayer of dedication for the minibus and the formal proceedings were closed by the Rev Mark Warwick, Rural Dean and Vicar of All Saints Church.
Christ Church deputy transport manager Ian Collis thanked the council for its donation.
He said: “The minibus is for the whole community, young and old, wheelchair users, schools, youth groups, church groups and in fact anyone who wants to hire it for a group outing, or individual wheelchair users needing transport.
“This summer we are taking groups as far as the Lake District and Heathrow Airport”.
Transport scheme manager Sandy Jackson added: “The new minibus will really enhance the transport scheme’s service to the community and is a great asset for the scheme as a whole.”
