New recycling plant in Bourne could create 30 jobs
A new plastics recycling centre could be built in Bourne, creating 30 jobs.
An application has been submitted by Chris Riddle to South Kesteven District Council for the new recycling centre, which would be operational 24 hours a day, in South Fen Road, Bourne. The plan includes two industrial buildings to house the plastic recycling plant and storage.
There would also be weighbridge, sub-station and car parking, as well as an extended access road on the 2.94 acre site
If approved, the centre would be built on vacant scrubland close to the junction with Cherryholt Road. It would operate under the name of Blue Sky Plastic Recycling.
The application states that Blue Sky Plastic Recycling, which company specialises in separating plastic from other properties and turning it into high quality regrind to re-use, already has a facility in Bourne but “due to the continuing success of the company are looking to expand their operations”.
The application says the buildings would be in-keeping with others in the area and that the proposals “provide much needed employment within an attractive development assisting in the future development of Bourne”.
It is not yet known when the application will be discussed by South Kesteven District Council’s development control and licensing committee.
Meanwhile, M G Skip Hire has applied to Lincolnshire County Council to transform a farm in South Fen Road, Bourne, into a waste transfer station.
The application states the business, which sorts waste from builders skips and separates the waste for landfill and recycling, has outgrown its current site in Tunnel Bank, Bourne, where there is no potential for expansion.
The applicant Martin Gamble proposes to relocate to the proposed site, which is four times the size and provides better facilities for storage.
Mr Gamble owns the site in South Fen Road and operated it as a pig farm until 2010 when the success of the waste transfer business forced him to close the farm.
If approved, it will result in the number of staff doubling from two to four.
The application will be discussed by Bourne Town Council’s highways and planning meeting, which will be held at Bourne Town Hall at 6.45pm on Tuesday. It will be followed by a full council meeting at 7.30pm.
