New teaching area opens
A TEACHING area at a school was officially opened by Bourne mayor Trevor Holmes on Monday.
Mr Holmes cut the ribbon to open the new environment area at the Robert Manning College in Edinburgh Crescent, Bourne.
The area has been developed by gardening club pupils and staff and will be used for the environment and land-based diplomas, which the school is starting this September.
Principal Laurence Reilly thanked everyone for attending the opening and for supporting the project.
He said: “This eco-friendly project will benefit young people and adults alike within the Bourne area.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support offered by local businesses and community groups in developing the site.”
During the official opening Coun Holmes also planted a tree which was donated by the Cherry Holt Road Garden Centre.
The launch was also attended by East Midlands Development Agency representatives Lesley Hilton and Deborah Fraser, who were impressed by how much the previously overgrown site had been transformed.
The agency provided funding to allow the build to be completed.
Pupils who designed the sensory garden alongside the building also attended.
