The owners of Bourne-based Southfield Nurseries have spoken of their delight after winning a prestigious award.
The nurseries’ display of cacti and succulent won Best in Show for the plant nursery displays at the 2014 Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
Linda Goodey, who owns the nurseries with her husband Bryan, who created the business 40 years ago, said: “It is thrilling to win this award.
“The last time we won the award was about 10 years ago.
“Winning the award is important as it shows the sheer quality of the plants we have to offer.”
Mrs Goodey said a tremendous amount of work went into growing the cacti for the show as well as designing and setting up the display.
Southfield Nurseries stocks about 500,000 plants in its greenhouses.
It employs four regular part-time staff plus additional staff for the show season.
More than 100 leading UK plant nurseries take part in the show.
It is rated Britain’s best gardening event by the magazine Which?
The Southfield Nurseries’ stand was awarded a Premier Gold Award and out of the 20 Premier Gold winners, was chosen as the overall winner for Best in Show. In making their decision the judges consider overall impression, quality of plants and the skills demonstrated in displaying them. Southfield received maximum points.
