A CELEBRATION has taken place in Barmstedt in Germany to mark 25 years since it twinned with Oakham.
In April Cottesmore Scouts and leaders visited their scouting friends and camped for a few days in the town near Hamburg before moving on to home hospitality.
During their visit they planted an oak tree in Oakham Promenade in Barmstedt and a celebration reception was attended by scouts and other friends and contacts in Barmstedt.
Last month the founder members of the twinning, Francis and Angie Humphreys, visited Barmstedt to see their friends and contacts who helped to set the twinning up in 1987.
For the anniversary year a book of memories was presented to the twinning group in Barmstedt and an official plaque for the oak tree was presented to the town.
Oakham visitors to Barmstedt will be able to see this tree when they visit Barmstedt and anyone interested in making a link with a family or similar club, association, or group, please contact Oakham Twinning for more information on 01572 756120.
The groups would like to see the friendship between the two towns continue to flourish and enable people to experience life in a small German town very similar to Oakham.
