An Oakham man has cycled from London to Istanbul in aid of a children’s charity.
Gavin Scott, of Westfield Avenue, rode 2,300 miles through eight countries on his way to the Turkish city in aid of Children’s Brain Tumour Research.
Speaking before he set off, Gavin said: “We all need something to challenge us and take us out of our comfort zone and for me this is it.
“At the same time it gives me the opportunity to raise money for such a great cause.”
Gavin completed his challenge on Monday and is now enjoying a well-earned holiday with his wife Helen. He kept friends and family updated throughout his ride on his Twitter account, @GavJScott, and on Monday posted a photo from his hotel room in Istanbul, adding: “Quite possibly the biggest bed ever #istanbul luxury.”
So far Gavin has raised more than £2,500 for his chosen charity. He is still accepting sponsorship, and you can donate online by visiting www.justgiving.com/Gavin-Scott6/.
