A Rutland farmer has been awarded the British Empire Medal for decades of volunteering in various guises.

George Morley, 79, of Sycamore House, Teigh, received the award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for “services to Oakham Rugby Football Club and to the community in Teigh”.

A former scrum half for the club for 14 years, Mr Morley has been credited with providing “unstinting support for over 60 years”. That included managing the club for 39 years and serving as its president for 10 years until 2009.
