'Panther's' giant footprint

A GROUP which looks into suspected panther sightings is investigating a giant footprint found at a golf course.

David Swann, 68, of West Street Gardens, Stamford, discovered the print at Rutland County Golf Course, in Great Casterton, on Boxing Day and took a picture of it with his mobile phone next to a 6.7cm golfer's pitch mark repairer.

The Mercury got in touch with Big Cats In Britain - which specialises in following-up information relating to large feline sighting - and in turn the organisation met Mr Swann to consider the evidence.

After looking at the image Rob Cave, of the group, said he would not rule out the footprint coming from a panther and would continue to look into possible panther sightings in and around the golf course.

He said: "It's definitely not a fox or badger print. and this looks interesting. As far as I'm concerned it's not a one-off and we will be continuing investigations."
