Parking policy up for approval by cabinet

A PANEL has recommended that a new parking policy be approved when it goes before cabinet.

The places scrutiny panel of Rutland County Council considered the parking policy at its meeting on Thursday last week, and has recommended it be approved by cabinet.

The policy, including double yellow lines on a bend in Stamford Road, Oakham, was put together as part of a review of parking in Oakham and Uppingham.

The panel also considered a report on street lighting and have recommended to the cabinet that from April 2013, parish councils are responsible for paying for their street lighting and that the county council offers them loans to install energy saving equipment.

It follows an unsuccessful trial which took place in Oakham and Cottesmore where the street lights were switched off during the night in a bid to save money.

Until now, parish councils have been paying the county council to provide the lights.
