Paula’s delighted to win expert help and advice

PHYSIOHANDS is the winner of our Local Business Accelerators campaign.
Paula White, who runs the physiotherapy business which has practices in Stamford and Oakham, was delighted when she found out she had won the campaign.
Physiohands beat off competition from Daytona GB Car Care, based in Ketton, and Clever Thinking Design, from Bourne.
As part of the campaign, Paula will get an advertising package in the Mercury and expert advice from our business mentors Robert Loomes, Richard Hegarty and Ross Clephane.
Paula said: “I was surprised to win because I know there was quite a lot of competition. We are very flattered the judges felt we were worthy of it.”
Paula spent more than 20 years working as a physiotherapist in the NHS before setting up the business, which initially started off as a triage service from two medical practices.
She then set up a practice in Burley Road, Oakham, in 2009, and the Stamford practice, which is in St Peter’s Hill, followed in 2011. She said her success was down to team work and hard graft.
Judges in the campaign were impressed by Paula’s enthusiasm, her professionalism and her dedication to helping local clients.
They also felt the advertising package would accelerate her business.
Mercury editor Eileen Green said: “Lots of promising businesses entered Local Business Accelerators and we were very pleased with the response.
“Paula was an outstanding candidate and we look forward to seeing how Physiohands progresses in the future.
“I would like to thank all the businesses which entered the Local Business Accelerators and our three business mentors for their support.”
The business mentors said they were delighted to be involved in the campaign.
Richard Hegarty, a partner at Hegarty LLP Solicitors, said it was a “welcome campaign for fledgling businesses”.
He said: “All of the finalists were impressive but the winning business Physiohands stood apart.
“Paula’s enthusiasm, determination to expand and provide a good service was admirable and I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail in her business plan.”
Successful watchmaker Robert Loomes said: “It was a remarkably difficult decision to make because we were looking at such different businesses, not only which was the most worthy but which would most benefit from the prize.
“Physiohands impressed me because it was such a professional organisation and for a fairly new business, that is fantastic.”
Ross Clephane, who owns accountancy firm Brayshaw Morey, said: “We all felt that Physiohands was benefiting the local area and it was a good standard of business.
“It was a good campaign and I hope the mentors will be of help to her.”
