Plans for rest home in Stamford could be turned down
Plans to demolish a rest home to make way for three houses have been recommended for refusal by district council officers.
The application by Mr C Dunmore to knock down Casterton House Rest Home, in Casterton Road, Stamford, and build homes in its place, will be discussed by South Kesteven District Council’s development and licensing committee on Tuesday.
It is not a major application but has been referred to the committee because it is a site of local interest.
The application, which was submitted in July, includes designs for three five-bedroom homes with an access road.
But planning officers are recommending councillors turn down the plans because building residential units in place of the rest home “would be out of character with the area”.
Officers also say one of the proposed homes would be “extremely close” to the boundary of properties in Vence Close.
A report ahead of Tuesday’s meeting states the proposed development is “at odds” with the “prevailing character and would represent an unacceptable form of backland development”.
The report also says the development will “ compromise the setting of Casterton House”.
It says that Casterton House is “considered to be a significant local heritage asset”.
It also says the access road would result in an “unacceptable increase in noise and disturbance”.
The application states the new homes would have little impact on neighbouring properties as their height would be less than the existing rest home.
Casterton House Rest Home caters for up to 16 residents and specialises in care for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Yesterday, the rest home was still open and operating.
