Playarea grant cancelled by Government

A £50,000 grant for new play equipment in Whissendine and Ketton has been cancelled by the Government today.

Whissendine and Ketton residents have been working towards getting the money for nine months, consulting people and putting together plans.

But county councillors were told today that the funding is being withdrawn.

Rutland County Council ward member for Whissendine Brian Montgomery (Ind), said: "I'm absolutely furious about it.

"We have spent a lot of time talking to mums about what equipment they would like to see and were told we could have the money.

"I know we are in a terrible financial state but the Government shouldn't take things away from children."
