The Garden of Surprises at Burghley House was the inspiration for 15 bakers who met there on Sunday.
The fifth meeting of Stamford Clandestine Cake Club was held in the Loggia conservatory at the stately home, near Stamford, with members and their guests bringing 15 cakes based on the theme of surprise.
Cakes ranged from a chocolate cake, baked using the surprising ingredient of sauerkraut, to a cake that when cut had all the colours of the rainbow or tiger stripes.
Organiser Sophie Douglas said: “The gathering at Burghley House was an amazing success. Each baker really thought about the surprise theme and it was great to see everyone’s interpretation.
“The group grows each month and so many new friendships have come out of our mutual love of cake.”
An Uppingham and Oakham Clandestine Cake Club is due to launch on April 5 between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
