A prison’s monitoring board is on the lookout for new members.
Stocken Prison in Stretton needs volunteers to give up their time and join a team of 18 monitors who are all members of the Independent Monitoring Board.
Mike Siswick, who is chairman of Stocken’s board, said: “Every prison and immigration removal centre has a board attached to it whose role is to ensure that Home Office rules and regulations are properly applied and that proper standards of care and decency are maintained.
“The job, which is unpaid but expenses are covered, is hugely interesting, challenging and absorbing but it is not for everyone.
“You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, have good communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement.”
Stocken accommodates about 850 prisoners.
