Pub and nightclub could cost £100k to repair

A PUB and nightclub hit by a fire will cost £100,000 to repair.

The Nags Head pub and Loft nightclub in Abbey Road, Bourne, could be closed for four to six weeks for a refit after the blaze on Wednesday morning.

Landlord Andy Binder said he felt as though his heart was being ripped out as he saw the flames.

Mr Binder, who has owned the pub for about 10 years, said: "This makes you feel like your soul has been ripped out.

"It was a horrible feeling to see it burning knowing there was nothing I could do.

"It is just heart-wrenching."

Firefighters from Bourne and Market Deeping were called out at about 1am after smoke was seen at the back of the building.

It is believed the blaze was caused by an electrical fault to a wall-mounted television in the nightclub.

Ceilings, walls and fixtures in the pub have been damaged by the blaze and the carpets have been left water-logged. The pub also needs rewiring after water leaked into the main fuse box.

He said: "Upstairs is a complete mess, but again it is a chance to use it as a blank canvas to start again. It is a time for change and a new era for us.

"We will be looking at different ideas and the food which we serve. We may give it more of a modern look, something which appeals to youngsters but still attracts our regular customers.

"My staff have been brilliant. They are probably the best team I have had for many years."

Mr Binder said nothing would be cancelled - just postponed. This includes the 70s night which was organised for tonight.

Anyone who usually eats in the Nags Head is welcome to visit the Red instead where there will be food served.

Mr Binder said: "In the pub we will need new carpets – basically a total revamp. But it gives a blank canvas to start afresh. It has all been hard, but you have to take the good with the bad."

He added: "I am quite excited now about it, although yesterday was probably one of the worst days I've had."

When the pub reopens customers can expect a grand party to welcome them back.

Nightclub general manager Rob Wilmot was unavailable for comment.
