Youngsters at Whissendine Primary School have been given a special lesson in politics.

Rutland county councillors Carolyn Cartwright (Con), Gale Waller (LibDem) and Brian Montgomery (Ind), along with former county councillor Eileen Ray and Melton borough councillor Trevor Moncrieff (Lab) gave a talk at the school to Year 6 pupils who have been finding out more about the subject as part of their extra-curriculum enrichment programme.

The councillors answered questions and spoke about their roles.

They also held debates on a number of issues from voting age to taxes.

As part of the programme, the children have been learning how parliament works, the role of an MP and even formed their own political parties.
