Rat Race Dirty Weekend comes to Burghley

People will be able to push themselves to their very limit during a challenging assault course being held at Burghley House for the first time.

Rat Race Adventure Sports is hosting the event on Saturday, May 11.

The event, dubbed Dirty Weekend, will involve what organisers are claiming is the largest obstacle course on earth.

The full course more than 20 miles long and features in excess of 200 obstacles set in more than 20 zones. There is also a lighter version, which is 13 miles and has fewer obstacles.

Managing director of Rat Race Adventure Sports Jim Mee said the course would test even the toughest of obstacle course enthusiasts.

Jim said: “We don’t do things by halves. If you’re going to build the world’s largest obstacle course, it makes sense to put it somewhere suitably awe inspiring.”

The organisers also run a series of events for Men’s Health called Survival of the Fittest but Jim said the event at Burghley was their “biggest and boldest to date”.

Each of the zones is designed to test the strength and stamina of the participants and push their mental and physical ability to the limit.

Part of the grounds will also be turned into a festival-style village for the weekend, where there will be a music festival for competitors and supporters, a giant beer tent and camping.

Burghley House estate director David Pennell said Burghley was excited to host the event.

He said: “We are very used to horses and riders’ feats of endurance but for the first time it will be people on their own two legs pitching their stamina against the gruelling obstacles set up for the Dirty Weekend.”

The event is open to individuals and teams of five and 10. The standard entry price is £119, including camping and afterparty entry.
