People are being urged to recycle their Christmas trees.
The 12th night, which falls on Sunday, means taking down Christmas decorations and clearing out for the New Year. Lincolnshire County Council is advising residents that real and plastic trees will be accepted for recycling at its 13 waste sites waste including the tip at Pinfold Lane Industrial Estate, Bourne.
Other items include batteries, books and CDs, cooking oil and small electrical appliances.
Waste operations team leader at Lincolnshire County Council Ian Taylor said: “Whether you’re looking to get rid of your real or old plastic tree or have an excess of packaging, remember that our Household Waste Recycling Centres for you, with excellent site staff on hand to help you and advise which container to use.
“It’s also a typical time of the year to dispose of old items which Santa has replaced, such as TVs, DVD’s, computers, books, CDs, electrical items and clothes – the sites will take them all.
“Another way to help make a huge difference and bolster Lincolnshire’s already excellent recycling record is to bring those batteries the kids have already exhausted.
“Batteries contain various hazardous metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, zinc, manganese and lithium and can be harmful to the environment if they are disposed of in landfill. Recycling recovers materials that can be used to make new products, as well as saving natural resources and reducing the need to mine more.”
District councils also offer collection services for household waste, providing kerbside recycling schemes and collecting bulky household items.
