Ride raises £3,866 for Great Ormond Street
Ben Ellis and Ben Warburton
SCHOOLBOYS Ben Ellis and Ben Warburton have raised a magnificent £3,866 to date for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London.
The intrepid 16-year-olds cycled from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland.
Ben Ellis, who lives in Castle Bytham and goes to Oundle School and Ben Warburton, who goes to The King’s School, Peterborough, covered 960 miles in total and averaged 76 miles a day during the two weeks it took them.
Ben Ellis said this week that it had been extremely difficult and they had to battle against aching legs.
“The best part was the scenery in Glencoe National Park and the easy 10-mile downhill stretch there and on the second from last day we reached 50mph going downhill just before Wick,” he said. “It was great fun.”
They were accompanied by Ben Warburton’s parents who towed a caravan which the boys slept in at night.
The two Bens decided to do the challenge before they chose a charity but decided on Great Ormond Street as such a brilliant cause.
The lads had help with their bikes and other equipment from Russell Creasey at Trek in Milton Keynes, Michael Coughlan from CNP Professional who helped with supplements for the ride and from Airfield Warehousing which made a generous donation.
