A SHOP owner hopes to have eaten his way into the record books after tackling two big breakfast challenges.
Robert Pinto, 38, from Stocks Hill, Ketton, travelled to the Hungry Hossee cafe in Corby on Thursday last week to take on a 7,500-calorie full English breakfast after reading about it in a newspaper.
The previous record for the massive meal was 52 minutes but Robert, who runs the C3 clothes shop in Ironmonger Street, Stamford, shocked staff and customers by gulping it down in a staggering 13 minutes.
His success inspired him to head to Mario’s Cafe in Westhoughton, Bolton, on Monday to take on a breakfast that would put him in the Guinness World Records book.
More than 550 people from all over the world had attempted the challenge of eating ten sausages, ten eggs, ten rashers of bacon, five black pudding slices, and piles of beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast in 20 minutes without a drink, but in six years none had been successful.
That was until Robert turned up, and ate the whole thing in just eight minutes and 49 seconds.
He said: “I was surprised no-one had done it, there must be other people who can but it’s nice to be the first one.
“It’s just a bit of fun but it’s something I knew I could do.”
At 6ft 1ins tall and just 11st 8lbs Robert’s slim figure disguises his enormous appetite, and he says the cafe owners were sceptical when he took on the challenge.
He added: “When I turned up they looked at me like ‘are you for real?’.
“They take it quite seriously, they couldn’t quite believe it.”
Robert said he enjoyed the breakfast, but needed to go for a five-mile walk and a three-mile run to work off some of the calories afterwards.
The breakfast at Mario’s Cafe has been certified by Guinness World Records as the biggest full English in the world.
Robert has dreamed of being in the Guinness World Records book since he was a child, and is now looking to bigger challenges.
He said: “I’m going to do a burger challenge in Norwich next week. You get £200 if you can do it, no-one has ever done it before.
“The next step is to try a challenge in America. There is a lot of prize money over there, the top earner gets about £350,000 a year.”
Mario’s Cafe owner, Mario Frappola, said: “I was really shocked because he finished it so quickly.
“I couldn’t believe it. I thought he was never going to do it, I thought good luck, we’ll see you in 20 minutes.”
Mario now plans to create a healthy breakfast challenge.
The video of Robert’s record-breaking attempt is currently being ratified and he should feature in next year’s book.
