A popular village 10k and fun run is making a comeback and organisers are hoping this year’s event will be one of its biggest yet.

Langtoft Road Run was first staged in 1988 and has raised thousands of pounds for local charities over the years, but the 2013 event had to be cancelled because of an issue over traffic management.

That problem is now resolved and organisers are hoping hundreds of runners will join them in celebrating what will be the 25th staging of the road run, on Sunday, May 4.

The 3k fun run within Langtoft will start proceedings at 10.15am, with primary schools invited to enter teams for the inter-school challenge. All finishers will get a medal, with trophies for the first male, first female and for the members of the winning school team.

Runners in the 10k, which is a flat, certified-accurate course under UKA rules through Langtoft, Greatford and Barholm, will be under starter’s orders at 11.15am.

This year the minimum age limit for the 10k is being lowered from 17 to 15, which brings it in line with UKA recommendations.

There will also be a £100 cash prize for anyone able to beat the existing male or female course records.

Sue Archer, one of the organisers, said: “I didn’t realise how popular this event was in Langtoft until we had to cancel it, so I am delighted that it is back on this year and I hope many people will turn out in support.

“Obviously we rely heavily on the work of many volunteers on the day and we are always looking for new people to join the team, so if anyone would like to offer help please get in touch on 01778 341845.

“In addition, to help fund the ever-increasing costs of the event, we do have sponsorship opportunities available and would be pleased to hear from any local companies who would like to get involved.”

The race will take place in Bourne Wood on April 13.

Organisers hope more than 350 runners will take part and help raise £3,000 for local charities.

Local educational charities supported include; Youth speaks, Young Musician, Young Writer. Young Artist competitions. Other local beneficiaries include: Meals on Wheels, Bourne Outdoor Pool, Red Cross ambulance, The Sense project and others.
