Rutland College student killed in car crash
A 17-year-old Rutland College student has been killed in a road accident on a notorious stretch of road where two other people have been killed in less than two months.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash on the A6003 between the Stoke Dry crossroad and Caldecott in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A burgundy Citroen Saxo which was travelling from Uppingham towards Caldecott left the road and hit a solar panel road sign on the opposite side of the road.
The victim was a passenger in the car. The 18-year-old driver was taken to Kettering General Hospital where his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. Two other men who were passengers in the car were slightly hurt and are being treated in Grantham Hospital.
A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident.
Sgt Ivan Stafford, of the road policing unit, said: "We are trying to piece together exactly what happened. We have spoken to the occupants of a Ford Fiesta which was travelling behind the Saxo but we are keen to speak to anyone who saw either vehicles prior to the collision."
Mark Stones, 46, of South Witham was killed on the same stretch of road on Tuesday, September 18 when his Honda VTR 1000F Firestorm motorcycle was involved in a collision with a silver Toyota Corolla. It followed another fatal collision on Saturday, August 18 when Richard Stott of Oxford died after his Fiat Coupe sports car was involved in a collision with two other vehicles on Saturday, August 18.
