Rutland County Council is ready for icy weather
Three gritting lorries and more than 4,000 tonnes of grit are on standby to keep major roads across the county clear of snow and ice this winter.
During the last few weeks, the highways team at Rutland County Council have been going through final preparations to make sure everything is in place to keep the roads safe.
An extra small gritting vehicle has been hired this year, which can grit narrow roads.
Coun Martyn Pocock (Con), who is responsible for highways, said the extra vehicle shortens the time it takes to grit roads, providing a better service.
He said: “This is important should the forecast change, as it often does, as we can now react to things quicker than before. I’m sure that at some point this winter we’ll have a period of bad weather and I’d like to reassure residents that we are prepared as we can be for when it happens.”
