School in shock after death of pupil

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has died after falling from a window at his third-floor home in Oakham.

Dominic Archer-Fern died yesterday morning at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

He had been airlifted to the hospital on Wednesday after paramedics were called to The Sidings, Oakham, shortly after 4pm.

Ambulance crew and police had rushed to the flat where he lived with his family after receiving reports the youngster had fallen from the top floor of the building into the garden.

The teenager was described by neighbours in his street as a well-brought up, polite young man.

Neighbour Laura Doyle, of The Sidings, said: "We used to see him heading off to school in his uniform. He was a nice, quiet person who kept himself to himself."

Dominic was a pupil at Catmose College. Its principal Stuart Williams said everyone at the school was saddened by the news.

He said: "First and foremost our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this difficult time.

"The college offers our condolences and support to Dominic's family and would wish to help them in any way we can at this most difficult of times.

"We have offered our students professional support and parents' advice to help them through this difficult time."

The coroner's office for Leicestershire and Rutland said it was awaiting the conclusion of police investigations before opening an inquest.

Police said they were not treating the incident as suspicious.
