See Queen tribute at big show
THE glory days of rock band Queen are to be recreated at Bourne Corn Exchange on Saturday, July 18, by tribute band The Bohemians.
The four-man band includes songs like Radio Ga Ga, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Kind of Magic in their set list.
They have headlined at a Queen fan club convention with an audience of over 2,000 fans, and were described by Queen guitarist Brian May as “brilliant”.
Tickets for the event at 10 in advance are available from Deeping Travel in Bourne or call 0782 803 2241. Tickets will cost 12 on the door or 5 for under-16s.
Students get creative
STUDENTS’ creative artwork ranging from fashionable clothes to paintings was put on display to the public.
New College Stamford staged an exhibition in June showcasing work from its creative arts department’s second year students and those undertaking one-year courses.
Art and design tutor Richard Smith said: “It always amazes me, the ingenuity of the students. You think you've seen it all but then they come up with something totally original and inventive.”
Car courses are extended
DRIVING courses for older motorists have been such a success that another session is planned for the autumn.
Thirty places are available for the free course to help people brush up on their driving skills and road knowledge.

Career prize
THE Deepings School has received a plaque in recognition of its careers education, information advice and guidance programme.
It has been awarded the Career Mark for providing a comprehensive programme of lessons and activities for all of its students.
Cabbies fined
TAXI drivers who double park in Broad Street, Stamford are being handed 30 fines by police.
Officers say a number of drivers have recently been caught illegally parking in the town road and they are looking to clamp down on the crime.
