Shopaholic thief ordered to hand over her BMW

A SHOPAHOLIC who stole more than £100,000 from her employer has been ordered by a judge to hand over her prized BMW convertible as compensation to victims.

Tina Crowson funded an extravagant lifestyle including her flash car, a personal trainer and a 150-a-week hair do out of money she stole from Bourne-based Peterborough Game Company.

The 44-year-old was jailed for 30 months in January after admitting theft of 128,060 between 28 February 2007 and 1 August 2008.

She also admitted obtaining her employment by deception as a result of submitting a false cv.

It was her second jail sentence for stealing from an employer as back in 2003 she was sent down after stealing 74,000 from Peterborough-based Red Robin Toys.

On Monday at Lincoln Crown Court Recorder Paul Farrer QC ruled that her benefit from her latest crimes was 250,389 and ordered her to hand over her available assets of 27,551 within six months or face an extra 14-month jail sentence in default.

The money will go to Peterborough Game Company as compensation.

Crowson will lose the BMW 330i with personalised number plates which is worth 18,500. The vehicle was paid for in cash by Crowson from money she stole.

Jewellery, two chandeliers and furniture are also to be seized along with almost 4,000 cash.

Rob Townsend, prosecuting, told the confiscation hearing: "Most of the items are already in the possession of the police.

"Some have been sold and some have been valued and are to be sold.

"I ask for compensation to be paid from the confiscation order. Essentially the sum of this order will be paid to the victims of the case."

Crowson, who was living in Livermore Green, Werrington, Peterborough at the time of her arrest, claimed she became addicted to shopping while suffering from depression.

After completing her earlier prison sentence Crowson, who claimed to be a devout Christian, was taken on as an accounts clerk by Peterborough Game Company after submitting a false cv.

She went on to hide invoices and pocket the money paid over by customers stealing seven times her annual wage.
