Sisters mark 60 years of wedded bliss
MILLIONS of marriages take place every year but not many churches have played host to the weddings of three sisters in just six months.
That is what happened when the Watchorn sisters walked down the aisle between March and September in 1948 at All Hallows Church in Seaton.
Dorothy, Kathleen and Joan, who lived at Grange Farm in Seaton, all tied the knot that year and have just enjoyed a diamond wedding anniversary celebration together.
Dorothy Pridmore, now 81 and living at Chater Mews, Ketton, looks back with fondness on March 27, the date she married Geoff, who is now 89.
"We were the first of the three couples first to marry and I think we had to show them the way," she said.
"I think that year was an expensive year for our father!"
Three months later, on June 19, it was the turn of Kathleen - now 84 and living in Main Street, Empingham - who married farmer Les Shotbolt, now 92, at the same venue.
Then, on September 25, Joan, now 83, stepped up the aisle with Syd Clifton, now 82.
The three couples met up at Joan and Syd's home in Spalding for a celebratory lunch last month and reflected on their 60 years of wedded bliss.
Dorothy said all three couples chose All Hallows simply because it was their village church.
She said: "It's a very special time for us all. You get quite a lot of siblings who celebrate 60 years of marriage, but not in the same year."
The significant timings in the family do not end with the wedding anniversaries.
Each of the couple's children – Paul, Jane and Elizabeth – were all born in the same year and turn 59 this year.
