These eye-catching birds appeared on the wall of a shop in Stamford over the weekend, painted by street artists Snik.

The duo, who insist on remaining anonymous, painted the eye-catching image on the back of You and Beyond in St Mary’s Street, Stamford. They have called it Winged Fire.

The painting has been months in the making and is based on a complex stencil, which the pair spent weeks cutting out.

They got the go-ahead to paint from the building’s owner and chose the weekend as it “seemed like the start of spring”.

The pair, who have painted in Zurich, Amsterdam, Paris, London and Berlin, said their aim is to add colour to run-down areas and brighten people’s day.

Snik has painted in the town centre before but said it had not been received well. They hope this piece of work will be received more positively.

One of the artists said: “We are always after walls to paint in the town.”

A photograph of the painting attracted attention on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter over the weekend.
