Residents with learning difficulties in Rutland receive the best help in finding work through their local authority, a survey has revealed.
Rutland County Council is the best council in the East Midlands at helping adults with learning difficulties find paid employment, according to a study undertaken by the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
The survey also shows the council performs will in a number of areas including quality of life, independence, and helping people remain in their own homes, and is ranked third across all councils in the Midlands.
The survey used data provided by each council to assess how well they are performing.
Rutland County Council leader Coun Roger Begy was delighted about the news and has praised staff in social care.
He said: “This is extremely pleasing and I’d like to firstly congratulate our social care staff who do a wonderful job looking after residents who need extra support.
“It’s one of those hidden services that is not always at the forefront but is highly valued by those who depend on it.”
In the study, the council came first in a number of categories, including; social care-related quality of life; lowest per cent of permanent admissions to residential and nursing care homes; service users who feel they have control over their daily life; overall satisfaction of people who use services with their care and support; and proportion of people who find it easy to find information about services.
Coun Begy added: “We are committed to providing quality social care and our focus is very much on enabling service users to make their own decisions and wherever possible remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
“If you want to find out more about the services we provide, contact the council and we’ll be more than happy to speak to you.”
