The chairman of trustees of a charity which helps provide for those in need has been thanked for his service.

Malcolm Wells has retired from his role as chairman of trustees for Barrowden United Charities.

The trustees met to mark his stepping down at an event at the Exeter Arms in Barrowden on Monday last week.

The Barrowden United Charities, which dates back to the 19th century, has an endowment of property in Hammersmith which has provided a steady income in recent years and which allows for distribution of benefits to those in the village who are less well off.

Benefits are delivered through the Barrowden and Wakerley Community Shop and the weekly Nelsons’ butchers distribution van.
