Members of a bowls club which folded in Stamford in 2011 have donated £12,000 to support the game in the town.

A dwindling and ageing membership was unable to sustain Belton Gardens Bowls Club in Recreation Ground Road, Stamford, however, many of its members kept their interest in the game by joining Stamford Indoor Bowls Association.

This month two of the old club’s stalwarts, Don and Dorothy Jackson, presented the club with a cheque for £12,000 so that the outdoor club’s memory will be perpetuated under one roof.

Don, a former Belton Gardens chairman and, with his wife, a former president of Stamford IBC, presented the money on behalf of their former club to be used toward improving facilities and to purchase a defibrillator to be used in emergencies.
