STAMFORD Museum will close next summer as a way for Lincolnshire County Council to cut spending in culture and adult education.
The museum in Broad Street, Stamford, has been selected for closure because it is not proving to be cost effective.
It will close alnog with Church Farm Museum in Skegness and Grantham Museum.
Executive member for cultural services Coun Eddy Poll said: "In the current economic climate, it is more important than ever that all services the county council provide offer value for money for the taxpayer and unfortunately, the running costs for Stamford Museum cannot be justified by the number of visitors it receives.
"One option we are now looking at is how we could house collections currently in the museum throughout Stamford Library and are confident that we will be able to continue to display items from Stamford's history for visitors and local people in the town."
The museum is expected to close on June 30 2011.
