Stamford shop manager jailed over child porn

A shop manager from Stamford who admitted having indecent images of children on his mobile phone has been jailed for 18 months.

Paul Slade, 41, encouraged other mobile users to send him pictures of young girls and asked a 15-year-old to pose in her underwear.

Police seized his phone after arresting him at Millets on Stamford High Street, where he was working, Lincoln Crown Court heard.

Officers also took a computer from his then home in Haybarn Road, Deeping St Nicholas, said Michael Cranmer-Brown, prosecuting.

The court was told that when the phone was analysed it was found to contain 13 indecent images of children, including seven movies.

Further inquiries revealed Slade had also sent texts to three other mobile users, encouraging them to provide him with pictures.

The messages included complaints that some girls in the images weren't young enough, including: "Thought you had young - she's 17."

Slade also posed as 17-year-old called Scott in an exchange of texts with a 15-year-old girl, from whom he also demanded pictures.

He asked her if she had a boyfriend and when she replied "No" sent her a message reading: "Can I have a pic of you, please?"

Other texts that he sent to the teenager included "Is it too much to ask for a sexy pic?" and "By the way, I didn't mean naked".

Stuart Lody, mitigating, said Slade was highly thought of by his employers but became depressed after a relationship broke down.

"He started looking for company through phone chat sites. This put him in contact with adults looking for these kind of pictures," he said.

Slade, now of Park Road, Spalding, pleaded guilty to possessing 13 indecent images of children and three charges of inciting distribution.

He also admitted attempting to incite child pornography and attempting to incite a child to send him an indecent photograph.

Jailing him, Judge Michael Heath told Slade, who committed the offences between April and May 2007: "What you had on your phone was filth."

Slade was also ordered to register as a sex-offender for 10 years and made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
