Stamford Town Council has been forced to cancel Sunday’s Summer Fayre due to heavy rain.

Town clerk Patricia Stuart-Mogg confirmed today (Wednesday) that the event, which would have taken place on the Meadows, would no longer go ahead.

She said: “After careful assessment of the Meadows, and taking due consideration of recent, current and predicted weather conditions, it is with considerable regret that Stamford Town Council has decided to cancel the Stamford Summer Fayre scheduled on Sunday, June 1.

“This is clearly a huge disappointment, not least given the extensive planning and effort that has been invested and the invaluable support of the many volunteers who so kindly offered to assist. Naturally, in the circumstances, all deposits received will be refunded by the town council.

“I am sure you share the town council’s disappointment; however, in the circumstances any such activity would be not only detrimental to the Meadows but, more importantly, hazardous for traders and the public alike.

“Good news is that a number of the musical acts due to appear at the fayre have offered to perform in the Cellar Bar at the Arts Centre on Sunday between noon and 4pm, and look forward to entertaining you.”
