Stamford town centre residents can buy £155 exemption from parking fines
Residents in Stamford town centre will be able to buy a waiver ticket so they can park outside their homes without getting a parking fine.
Lincolnshire County Council is introducing the ticket, which will go on sale on Monday and cost £155, as an additional option after offering reduced price permits for its long and short stay car parks.
The waiver ticket allows people to park unrestricted on roads which have time limits.
Wardens acting on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council started issuing tickets to drivers parked illegally on Monday and 29 tickets were given out in South Kesteven on Monday and Tuesday.
The district council has agreed the waiver ticket scheme with Lincolnshire County Council and says the cost ensures compatibility with the charges for the discounted car park permits.
District council leader Linda Neal (Con) said: “Residents within the scheme boundary can choose to use our existing scheme if they want to but they now also have the option of choosing on-street parking if they would prefer.”
People who have already bought a discounted ticket for the car parks can upgrade to the on-street waiver ticket scheme by paying the difference.
The tickets will be available to buy at the district council office in Maiden Lane, Stamford, from 9am on Monday. It will last until a permanent scheme is set up. Only residents living in the town centre and able to produce a vehicle registration document with a registered keeper’s address will be able to buy one.
Coun Neal said: “I am delighted the county council has been able to find a way to help until a permanent residents’ parking scheme can be introduced.”
She said the district council is investigating whether fees from the interim scheme can be used to offset the costs of a permanent residents’ parking scheme.
